Discover the culture of the Benasque Valley

The origins of the Villa de Benasque are remembered today through its rich heritage: stately homes in streets, squares and corners that make it a place full of history with emblematic buildings such as the church of Santa Maria, of Romanesque origin (13th century), the Tower of Casa Juste, Casa Faure or the Palace of the Counts of Ribagorza, Renaissance style.

Benasque is not only a tourist and sports destination. The history of this municipality has left heritage jewels specially cared for, among them the Palace of the Counts of Ribagorza, a Renaissance work from the second half of the 16th century that today is preserved in the historic centre of the town. In the seventeenth century it became the seat of the General Board or Customs under the ownership of the administrator of the same Don Pedro Sanz de Regatillo. It was in private hands throughout the 18th century until the middle of the 19th century that became the property of the senator of the kingdom Don Antonio Albar Anglada.

When the Civil War broke out, its rooms were used as quartering of the Alpine Battalion and finally, it was the residence of the Albar family until 2005, when this historic building became municipal property.

At that time, the idea arose of working on a project that would turn this emblematic construction into a place destined for socio-cultural activities and that could be opened to the public in order to make this jewel of the Benasques heritage known. There was an integral restoration and recovery of the central building, the era, the stables, etc.
