Chía is a small village located in Benasque Valley, within the Posets-Maladeta Nature Reserve. It keeps its history and traditions such as Patués, a variety of the typical Aragonese dialect spoken in Benasque Valley.
There are several shrines belonging to Chía, but there is one that is a must for all visitors: La Virgen de la Encontrada. This Virgin, as the name suggests, was found in the 10th century by a shepherd, as legend has it.
In days gone by, every Saturday in the month of May, a procession was organised where the villagers would walk up to the shrine accompanied by musicians and “butlers”, the organisers of the festivities, who set the pace to the rhythm of their feet and castanets.
Another must is the La Serreta viewpoint, with some exceptional views. When you are there, try to identify all the villages that you can see.
