Ésera River is one of the best national rivers for practicing aquatic sports and stands for its cold and crystalline water, for the iconic rapids and for the surrounding landscape. Adrenaline, adventure and enjoyment wait for everyone who wants to go for a ride on rafting, hydro speed or kayaking in this river.
Ésera River rises at 2,500 m in Maladeta massif and receives the water from the melted snow of the central and top areas of the Pyrenees, as well as the water from spring and autumn rainfalls.
Rafting and other activities can be practiced approximately from March to September. The section where descents take place goes from Campo to Santa Liestra, all over 11 kilometres with different levels of difficulty that range from third to fourth depending on the river’s flow. It is an amusing trip with many wave trains that let us play without rest. If you want to make a section shortcut, you can leave the ride at the Sirga crossing (shortly before the pyramids section) where there is a towline with a chair used by fishermen that crosses the river.
At the foothills of Las Mosqueras conglomerate walls we come across the Pyramids, a crossing area made up of enormous detached rocky blocks that have obstructed the flow. It becomes evident once you see the first block in the middle of the river. Carefully, we have to pass through rollers and stones first in order to avoid the river siphon that comes later and that could overturn the raft. After passing this section, there are not evident obstacles until we arrive to Hoyo de Santa Liestra, an interesting rapid that indicates the end of the descent.
Throughout the descent, there are multiple easy rapids to enjoy and also backwaters to take a dip. In order to make the most of the trip, it is well recommended to go with an experienced guide from a professional company who can be hired in Campo.
We can enjoy a pleasant canoe ride in the incomparable Eriste lake setting.
