The whole northern Ribargorza, more than 30,000 ha that belong to the municipalities of Benasque, Sahún and Montanuy, is a unique reserve in Europe that was declared Nature Park in 1994.
In this authentic Pyrenean stretch, from Perdiguero massif in the west to Aneto village in the east, there are more than forty-five peaks over three thousand meters, including the top of the Pyrenees: Aneto peak (3,404 m). A high mountain ecosystem whose landscapes are home to thirteen millenary glaciers, declared natural monuments in 1990, gave rise to sharp crest, astonishing cirques and lovely high mountain lakes: the ‘ibones’.
The thirteen Pyrenean glaciers between Posets, Perdiguero and Maladeta have been witnesses of glacial eras that took place more than 45,000 years ago. They have been seducing mountaineers, photographers and Pyrenees lovers for years due to their white and grey icy colours, or even when they acquire reddish tonalities due to the Saharan dust.
