The simple parish temple of Inmaculada Concepción dates back to the 17th century and in its architecture decoration stands out the crismon located on top of the portico, an interesting model from the 17th century that is different from others that can be found in the Valley.
The greatest development of the town had place in 1914 when the company Catalana de Gas y Electricidad started to build de hydroelectric plant in Ésera River as well as other similar projects such as El Run and the Colonia, the new population hub on the opposite edge of the river meant for the construction workers and their families. The most important result was the implementation of a new alpine style architecture model completely different from the Alta Ribagorza traditional buildings.
The plant’s building became the starting point for the modernisation of Seira, for the river bed operation and for the unavoidable landscape change. All this resulted in a new economic development model that together with the population increase leaded to a new social and cultural pattern that designed a modern local identity throughout the 20th century.
Besides Seira town, the municipality also comprises:
Abi: This small village is located 3 km away from Seira through a narrow uphill road. The panoramic views from there are spectacular and there is a parish church devoted to San Miguel.
Barbaruens: Another small village located 8 km away from Seira in the middle of a forest hillside between the mountain chains of Chía and Cotiella. In its main road, we find the church dating back to the 16th century that nowadays has become a chapel of the ancient Visigothic monastery remains.
